16" x 18" - oil on canvas board
I keep thinking I want to loosen up in my paintings, but somehow it just doesn't happen. I might try something similar to this with a knife. I have been looking at my books on Giorgio Morandi as well as re-reading the great article by Thurmond on Cezanne and Colour and decided to try my small Cezannesque ginger jar in this painting. I wanted soft Morandi colours and this was done with artificial lighting. The masher is a new member of the prop family. I wanted to call this painting "Yes, your honor, we plead guilty" but thought it was too cute.
