Pottery and Scarf in Sunlight

oil on canvas board - 16"x20"

This was an experiment.  I have been reading a paper by G.T. Thurmond for the past two summers as he tries to set the record straight about the teaching methods of Henry Hensche (see on Facebook) due to several people using their own colour theories saying it is what they learned from him.  Anyway it is a very interesting paper and as much as I tried to follow his instructions, I ultimately ended up finishing the painting as best I could in my own way, but will keep trying to follow the Hensche way.  Very interesting, but time-consuming, especially if you are a newbie to the method.  This was painted on the deck of my yurt as I sat very comfortably inside with an electric fan on me, so I may do more of these.  It's very hot here in the state of Washington, but it is so beautiful and as I am free to walk around tomorrow I think I will start a landscape.

  2. This artist is definitely a master of the mood! I particularly like the way texture is recreated.

  3. Awsome painting....this is a masterpiece, the contrast of light and shade, the depth of color, the brush stokes remind me of Matisse in is early days.
